Joining ATC is dead easy. Here’s what to do:

  1. Check us out via browsing our website, check our New Members FAQ, ask questions of ATC trip participants
  2. Scroll down this page to see the fee to pay. Important: Depending on when you join, you'll pay either the Annual or Half Year rate. You’ll also see there are discounted fees for younger members and over 65s, plus you need to decide what hard copy publications (if any) you want mailed to you.
  3. Complete the joining form at the bottom of this page.
  4. Pay the fee into the Club bank account by Internet banking:

That’s it! You’ll get a confirmation e-mail within a few days, and a membership card in the mail.

And you’ve just joined Auckland’s most active tramping club!


Annual Membership Rates

You pay the Annual Rate if you are joining between 1 May and 31 December.

See under Half Year Membership Rates below if you are joining between 1 January and 30 April.

You can also choose to have our hard copy publications posted to you - ATC Wanderlust magazine (11 editions a year) and ATC annual reports $58.

Wanderlust is our very own ATC mag, printed monthly from February to December. The bulk of the cost covers the cost of printing and posting Wanderlust. A pdf version of each edition is freely available to all on our website – check out the latest Wanderlust pdfs.

If you want pour printed publications, be sure to add the charge to the relevant Membership rate above.

Members will also receive our ATC News email (11 annually) with the latest news and items of interest to members.

FMC Backcountry Magazine

Backcountry is the magazine of Federated Mountain Clubs (FMC), the voice of and for the NZ outdoors. The magazines are chock full of news, articles and discussion of matters relevant to us all. Check out the previous digital copies.

Up until June 2024 we had a printed mail option whereby ATC posted the magazine to you with other ATC publications. That is no longer available, as it is more efficient for you to subscribe to the FMC Direct To You (D2U) service directly, receiving the magazine as soon as it is printed. If you want the Backcountry magazine posted to you and you are a financial member of ATC, sign up to the D2U service here and via that pay the $20 annual postage cost direct to FMC.

If you are not an ATC financial member and want the Backcountry magazine, become an FMC Individual Supporter here.

Shortly ATC will be commencing participation in an online trial with FMC to receive a link to the latest Backcountry edition once it becomes available (currently they are online, but delayed by one edition). This will be provided by ATC to ATC members.

Half Year Membership Rates

You pay this rate if you are joining between 1 January and 30 April.

Ordinary member $40
Over 65 years member $30
Junior member (14-17 yrs) $25

Note that these include the $18 FMC subscription - you will receive an FMC discount card with which you can enjoy the FMC benefits immediately.

Plus Optional Printed Mail Charges - Half Year Membership

You can also choose to have our hard copy publications posted to you - ATC Wanderlust magazine (Up to 5 editions) and ATC annual report  $29

If you do want the printed publications posted to you, make sure to add this charge to the relevant Membership rate above.


Notes about your ATC Membership:

1. Our membership year runs from 1st July to 30th June.

2. The full year subscription amount is payable when you join between May and December. If you join in May or June, your payment takes you right through to the end of June in the following year.

3. The half year subscription amount is payable when you join between January and April. Your payment takes you through to the end of June in that year.

4. Subscription renewal notices are sent via email if an email address has been provided.

5. Your membership fee includes FMC membership. The FMC year and discount card runs from 1st June to 31st May. If you renew your ATC membership promptly, your new FMC card will turn up soon after. If you need the card before then, please contact our secretary.
