Tracks near the hut
Ngaro Te Kotare is nestled in a backcountry bush setting with many tramping tracks and points of interest nearby, such as the Waitakere Dam.
A number of these are currently closed as a kauri protection measure. It is expected that Auckland Council will re-open important local tracks over time. Local walking options for you include:
- Explore our own forested patch of paradise, including the blue-triangled loop track around the perimeter of the property
- From the hut turn right onto Cutty Grass track, cross Anawhata Rd and walk to McElwain lookout for great views out to the west
- Or turn left onto Cutty Grass and walk out to the Scenic Drive - access from there to Large Kauri, Spraggs Bush and the Waitakere Dam
- From the western end of Anawhata Rd there are tracks to Anawhata Beach and North Piha Beach
How to get to Ngaro Te Kotare Hut
To get to the hut, take Piha Road then Anawhata Road. You then turn onto a metalled access road through a locked gate leading to the secure off road car park. The hut is a 5 minute walk from there.
Further details and instructions on how to access the gate and hut keys will be given when your booking is confirmed.
See the map below for the location.
