April 14, 2024

It was a great day's tramp up and over Mt Te Aroha today - always a superb Sunday workout !

Fast Track Approvals Bill - an Environmental Disaster
It is important that we communicate to you what everyone is saying about the proposed Fast Track Approvals Bill - this is a disastrous proposal aiming to override all well established environmental protection, with huge implications for our natural environment.

Refer this website link for information about this, including extensive reports / submissions from Federated Mountain Clubs, the Environmental Defence Society, and Forest and Bird. This also provides a link to the ATC submission that we have made.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that as many people as possible make a submission, sign a petition, and / or write to their local MP - if you have never done that before, then now is the time when it is most needed. This needs to be done by Friday April 19th.

April Club Night

I am sure that you don't need any reminding that for our next club night on Wednesday April 17, Jim Morrow will present to us on his recent participation in a mountaineering expedition to Antarctica - Jim's presentations are always very interesting and popular.

River Safety Course

On the back of his attendance on a similar event last year, Stephen Martin has organised a River Safety Course on June 8th. Having the knowledge and experience to cross rivers safely is a key component of our tramping trips, so if you are unsure of what to do when crossing a significant river, this is the course for you. Details and registration form at this website link. Wetsuits provided and required, and hot showers afterwords !
